Now Playing Tracks

Hi:

I am a HOKIE. With both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees behind me, I am excited for the next chapter. PhD next? Maybe in 10 or more years.

So, it’s out of the education world and onto the “real” world. I have been a lifeguard, worked retail, customer service, and taught as a student teacher. All paths have led me here - a Commercial Lines Underwriter.

I have realized the “real” world is not for the faint of heart. You need to grow a “thick” skin, realize not everything you dream will become reality, but know that everything you do is apart of the person you are becoming. :-) I for one, think that’s the joy of it all.

My job isn’t in fashion, it doesn’t deal with marketing (much), and it doesn’t involve international travel. (All things I’ve dreamed about in a job!) But, I think I am going to enjoy this step. I have already looked up various certifications in this field. I want to immediately start climbing the ladder. (I am a huge go-getter and can never just settle; always looking for the next step!) I’ll learn to calm down one day….maybe.

I am in love with the idea of - traveling the globe, shopping for things I can’t afford (no purchases…well, sometimes), watching shows that make me laugh (or keep me on the edge of my seat), one day falling in love, drinking a glass of wine with a meal, sitting in a comfy chair with a magazine/book, laughing uncontrollably with family and friends and just enjoying all the blessings around me.

Here’s My Mini-Bucket List (the full version is pretty long):

  • Run a Half-Marathon before I turn 25 - November 10th!
  • Always Save MONEY!
  • Tone up! - Down 15lbs so far! :-)
  • Move to a city!
  • Go back to Europe before I am 30!

Life shouldn’t be taken for granted, I started 2012 with little complaints, but one ultimate goal. Finding a job, finding a place (living with the parents for year), and making my own way (ongoing). The idea is exciting, frightening, and I cannot wait to embark on this endeavor.

IT’S 2013! I started this year with the Daniel Fast. 21 days and I felt amazing. I think they were really on to something. I am sticking with most of it and working out 6 days a week! Summer 2013 better watch out! This year I hope to gain experience in work, figure out what I am made of, and try always try something new.

So, I’m 25. I have friends getting married, friends having babies…do I want this things? Yes, one day, but not now. Now is the time I discover what I can do - go out on multiple dates, push myself to higher potentials in work, church, and everyday living. Splurge on the little things…hey, it’s just me I have to worry about. Decide the last minute to go on a road trip (not as likely to happen, because I’m keeping a tight grip on the wallet), but you get the gist. Everything is in God’s timing and I truly believe in Him.

Sincerely,

Abbie Gilliam

SN: For the title, it’s a saying Granny always said when we were around a campfire and Daddy recommended I use it.
